Modern Studies
Modern Studies is a subject unique to the Scottish Curriculum, the subject thoroughly analyses our society and the world around us. Whilst often associated with Politics, Modern Studies does not just focus solely on politics but helps to provide pupils with an awareness of social, economic and political issues at a national and international level. At Earlston High School pupils are given the opportunity to study Modern Studies from S1 right up to Advanced Higher level.
As a subject which focuses heavily on current affairs we encourage pupils to consult current affair sources of information out with the classroom such as newspapers or news bulletins. This allows pupils to have a more rounded understanding of the topics we study, and an ability to connect what they learn in the classroom with real world examples.
