Mathematics National 5

Content

This course covers topics in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics.

Assessment

There are three units: Expressions and Formulae; Relationships; and Applications. At the end of each unit a prelim exam will be completed that will cover the topics completed so far.
There will be a final external exam in May.

Homework

Learners are expected to complete some work at home to help maintain the pace of their work in class. There will be formal homework at the end of each learning outcome.

Pupils applying for National 5 in S5/6 should have prior experience of National 5 either from being in a National 5 class in S3/4 or by being in one of our “bridging classes”. All pupils applying for this level should have already completed National 5 Numeracy in S4.

Value of the Course

A National 5 qualification in Mathematics is a requirement for a number of career paths including teaching, nursing and the RAF. You should consult the careers adviser if you need advice on this.

Mathematics Higher
